Q: What one thing would you suggest to other Adventist young people who want to get involved and help their local churches and communities?
Simeon, 16, Nairobi, Kenya: The church needs to hear the teens ideas on religion and how to get people to be more involved in Christianity! Teens are credited with one thing…Creativity!!!!!! Let the church put it to good use! I honestly think the church has sidelined the terms in issues concerning the church, yet we are one of the main and most powerful driving forces in the church! Camden, 15, Michigan, United States: Get out there, don’t let others lookdown on you because you are young. Show the world the light within. Shonelle, 20, New York, United States: Our youth our so valuable. I don’t think that they really understand that God has ordained them to do service for him and finish the work of the Gospel. Youths can become more involved in community or their church by joining a department within the church. Pathfinder’s is a great way for our young people to get to know God and share their knowledge and experiences with other young people as well as non-believers. Another way that young people can get involved is by working along with the AYS in their local churches so that they can plan Christ centered services and they can have some form of responsibility. Doing service for God, young people, is one of the most spiritually uplifting experiences and one of the best things that you can do to give back to the creator. God bless you in your efforts to make a difference by being active within your communities and churches. ch needs to hear the teens ideas on religion and how to get people to be more involved in Christianity! Teens are credited with one thing…Creativity!!!!!! Let the church put it to good use! I honestly think the church has sidelined the terms in issues concerning the church, yet we are one of the main and most powerful driving forces in the church! Mongezi, 25, Western Cape, South Africa: I think as a young person we really need to be the part church activities, we need to change the mindset of our society who believe that nothing you can learn from the church, we need to show them that there is an healthy breathing in the church. At our society young people are seen as unthinkable human beings. We need to show them that we can change our communities by attending the meetings, take part in the debates. Vadym, 19, Ukraine: One thing I want to suggest is we have to pray a lot. When we think that we’ve prayed a lot already we must pray more in order to be able to finish the work that God gave us to do. Not only in our local churches and communities, but also to the rest of the world that is still in darkness. Now, to get involved I only suggest us to open our eyes. Joe, 27, Kafue, Zambia: They should go for it. They should be focused and do their best for God and there community. Elvis, 26, United Kingdom: There is no better time to involve yourself in your local community and churches than now. I believe that it is much easier for the young people to reach out to the community and they have so much potential. We should not be discouraged when we see that people older then ourselves seem to do most of the work and are involved more. This is only because we have not taken our stand and made our contribution. We have not involved ourselves as much as we should and can. David, 21, Ohio, United States: Don't let anyone hold you down or tell you "no." That is the best advice that I can give. May, 18, Buskerud, Norway: I think it’s important to talk to others about your ideas, perhaps your pastor, youth leader, or you friends, so that you’re not alone, because if you work with things along, you easily get frustrated and burnt out. The more people that are involved, the better Meg, 15, Maine, United States: Hey, defiantly try to get involved with your church!! I’m currently trying in a different way, as the Student Association pastor of my school, but it is really fun! Ask you youth pastor or you pastor if there is anything you can do to help out. Sometimes just running Sabbath school is all you can handle, but that’s good! Start small so you don’t tire out quickly. If you are more involved than that, ask if you can get on the preaching schedule. Try to organize a youth retreat at your church or try to start a Bible study once a week at church or home. Invite friends from school and church. It’s a really good idea to get involved, so do try it! It will definitely improve your life and maybe even help your friends to come out of their shells to see you running something! Good luck and please pray for me this school year! I’ll be praying for you! Omondi, 25, Nyanza, Kenya: As a young person, what God needs of you is availability for he will give the ability to serve, fear nothing for cowards will certainly be missing in heaven. Termson, 27, Malawi: Young people should be ready to make Christ the master of all they have. Young people are fast growing in most aspects of life including financially. Thus the communities, the local church, will find them useful if they gesture a willing heart to get involved in native activities. Both the communities and the church would expect the young people to share what they have, including money! Therefore, young people should brace up to offer all for their Masters sake. Yola, 24, Eastern Cape, South Africa: I think young people should be more involved in the church, in giving scriptures, lessons, and also with the women’s ministry in helping the elderly and less fortunate. Thobile, 23, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa: To help those in need. There are plenty of poor people in our communities; our youth can collect food, clothes, etc. for those people. In that way they would have show the love of God to those people. Janelle, 29, Western Solomon Island Province, Solomon Islands: I would like to encourage them to get moving, fear nothing, but to let go and let God lead. There’s no time to waste and let us work hand and hand together to get more souls to Christ. Kelley, 18, New York, United States: If you feel comfortable enough with your church and community then go directly to someone who is already involved in helping and make your self available to the leaders of your church and community. Let them know that if they want help with something they can ask you. Chimuka, 21, Lusaka, Zambia: The greatest mistake we make as youths or Adventists is we want to labor for Christ with the wrong reasons. For example the reason why some of us are in the church is we fear judgment. My appeal is that let us follow the footsteps of Christ, loving Him with all our hearts and laboring for Him because we gladly want to. Also let us remember to live Christ like lives because the first sermon we preach to others is the way we carry ourselves. Most importantly, put God first in everything. Don’t get discouraged when things go wrong e.g. when people seem not interested; just believe God is with you always. Matthew, 17, Wisconsin, United States: Get involved by joining a committee or an active group in your church Otobong, 23, Lagos State, Nigeria: They should go ahead since the duty of the church is to reach the world Samuel, 23, Lusaka, Zambia: God has given each one of us special talents and gifts. The best thing that one can do is to identify the talent that God has blessed him with and strive to utilize it. I am a musician but I think I have the talent to teach and so am hoping to explore it as well. Community work is something that we all should be proud of doing. My church will this week be conducting a health expo in one of the most impoverished townships of Lusaka. Nandipha, 18, Pretoria, South Africa: As young people especially in South Africa we find not many young people are involved in the church. But I advise that if you as young person want to help in the church avail yourself with the talents you have or skills you can share in the church which can help the church to grow. Some young people wait to called so that they gifts can be uncovered by senior church members...I say don’t be shy with what God has given you Carla, 23, Trinidad WI: If you are not sure of your talents or gifts ask those around you for advice. But if you already have a great idea share it either with your youth leader or someone who would be able to point you in the right direction. Use any opportunity for service. I believe this gives a tremendous sense of achievement and usefulness. Randelle, 18, St. Kitts: I say, use what you've got. For instance, most youth are really into the internet age. Why not start an internet ministry? Use positive uplifting screen names instead of the junk some people use (and some Christian young people use some serious junk at times). E-mail scripture, devotional lessons, and links to positive sites and/or Bible studies. By doing these things one could develop quite a strong ministry and even though it may not be directly related to your local church, winning souls to Christ is our main goal as a church anyway. "Go ye into all the world and teach all nations..." Uche James, 19, Nigeria: If you ask me, I want my young colleagues in Christ to use what Savior the Lord has given them in serving him. And most importantly, if there is anything we think is making the church not interesting, lets make sure we put such a thing in order to the glory of God almighty. Teka-Ann, 24, California, United States: Be proactive. Don’t sit and wait to be asked to get involved. Identify your talents and those areas in your church and community that you can contribute to and get involved. Look also for the needs of your church and community; be ready to serve. Amplify what’s going well and aid what’s not going very well. Be open to new ideas and be courageous and unvarying in your willingness. Above all, seek the Lord’s guidance to lead you into the area of ministry/service that He wants you. Ian, 25, Badar lumpung, Indonesia: In worship. People sometimes don’t use worship for their heart, but only to make another activity by talking, laughing, or making noise. It’s horrible. We should have God inside our hearts. Eileen, 17, TX, United States: Find an area in which you can apply your talents (computers, children etc.). New ideas from you can be a great asset. Simply do things for God. Cornell, 20, Tennessee, United States: I would like to suggest that we as young people should make our desires known to church leaders. It bothers me to see that this website gets so little response from our youth worldwide. Our leaders have shown a desire to hear us in making this site available for us to communicate with them. What excuse then do we have for our silence?Do we REALLY DESIRE to be more involved? |
